Minimum Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field
  • Previousexperience in public relations, media relations, or marketing for a secondary school, university, or other education-related business or non-profit organization
  • Strong understanding of best practices in public relations and marketing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude toward colleagues and other external constituencies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel and to work flexible hours as necessary, including evenings and weekends

Preferred:
  • Three years of experience in public relations, media relations, recruiting, or marketing for a secondary school, university, or other education-related business or non-profit organization
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing and/or graphic design software


Job Specification
The Public Relations and Outreach Specialist manages the LSMSA social media presence, creates content to promote the school at-large, and assists with outreach initiatives.
The Public Relations and Outreach Specialist will be responsible for writing, editing, and submitting content for both print and electronic media; developing a unified brand voice and maintaining brand integrity across all platforms; working with students and staff to manage and maintain all official LSMSA social media accounts; and assisting with the production of various publications for the department and the campus at-large. Additionally, the Public Relations and Outreach Specialist assists with the development and implementation of departmental outreach programs.

Salary range for this 12-month position is $33,000 - $35,000.

Job Duties and Other Information
Public Relations and Outreach (90%)
  • Contribute to the overall success of the school by attending to aspects relating to creating and sharing accurate, timely information with the public and by performing all other essential duties as assigned
  • Write, edit, and submit content pertaining to the school in the form of press releases, articles, newsletters, news stories, features, profiles, etc. for both print and electronic media
  • Conduct interviews with and take photos of target audiences as it relates to the development of stories
  • Develop a unified brand voice and maintain brand integrity across all platforms
  • Create, distribute, and manage press releases
  • Pitch story opportunities to print, broadcast, and digital press
  • Partner in the creation and development of major publications
  • Work with student organizations and departments to manage and maintain all official LSMSA social media accounts
  • Coordinate and manage the production schedule, printing deadlines, and distribution of multiple projects for Enrollment Management and LSMSA at-large
  • Help design and develop presentations for administration and senior staff
  • Consider data analytics, including SEO performance to adjust and optimize communication strategies
  • Assist with scheduling and executing recruiting travel and events
  • Delegate projects to part-time media specialist as needed
Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
  • Assist withdepartmental outreach programs, includingSummer@LSMSAand LSMSA-TIP, as needed by division
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned
