What You’ll be Doing: As the Associate Development Editor for the Nursing Education and Nursing Practice portfolios, you will join a team passionate about creating quality content and delivering it in innovative solutions. You will develop content and assets for books and digital products spanning undergraduate nursing education to nursing practice. You will serve as the owner of your assigned products during the development cycle to ensure delivery of current evidence-based content on time, on spec, on scope, and on budget. Collaboration with internal teams (Editorial Operations, Acquisition Editors, Product Managers, Marketing, and Sales) and external partners (vendors, authors, subject matter experts) is essential to produce exceptional content for customers.

Key Tasks

  • Manage the product development cycle for all assigned projects (textbooks, digital assets, videos, and ancillaries) in collaboration with the Editorial Operations team or Product Manager.

  • Collaborate with Acquisition Editor and Marketing Manager in product planning and evaluation, formulate market surveys, outcomes for focus groups, and scripts for planned activities to gather customer insight and assess alignment with the portfolio.

  • Work with subject matter experts, authors, vendors, and in-house staff to develop core content suitable for multiple platforms and customers.

  • Communicate with customers through surveys, focus groups, or planned activities to understand needs, learning environments, and market trends.

  • Provide written analysis of customer feedback and competitive products to support market growth and solving customer problems.

  • Assist Acquisition Editors in understanding market segments, competitive landscape, market trends, and customer demographics.

  • Inform and articulate Acquisition Editors’ vision and plan for product development.

  • Help define deliverables and scope of products, including related resources, in light of market feedback and competition.

  • Analyze proposals and sample content to determine market viability and the ability of subject matter experts to create and revise content per project plan.

  • Create a comprehensive project budget and coordinate with the Editorial Operations team to develop a schedule/project plan.

  • Manage content and/or media development via vendors and freelancers, ensuring all deliverables meet specs, on time, and on budget.

  • Demonstrate development editing capabilities through analysis of author/subject matter expert presentations and provide direction on content and pedagogy.

  • Work with Editorial Assistants to commission reviews of content and features; evaluate feedback to ensure market needs are met and products are positioned for success after release.

  • Alert Acquisition Editors and Marketing to new opportunities discovered during customer interactions; review and refine project scope as needed.

  • Track project status, schedule, and budget; assist in preparation of management reports.

  • Problem-solve quality/content or scope issues and collaborate to resolve schedule, budget, and vendor/SME challenges.

  • Assist Marketing with sales inquiries when appropriate.

  • Manage customer escalations from Online Product (Technical) Support.
