Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Enrollment at West Virginia University as a part-time or full-time student

Core duties and responsibilities

• Performs visual field testing, lensometry and keratometry on patients.
• Conducts and records formal and informal visual fields to include, confrontation, Amsler Grid, Goldmann Perimetry, Automated perimetry, and OCT.
• Interacts with and assists clinical staff and faculty.

Physical requirements

• Must be able to carry and move heavy objects in excess of forty pounds (equipment, materials, etc.).
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift, move, stoop, reach, and stand for long intervals.
• Vision correctable to at least 20/30 in one eye.

Working environment

• Normal outpatient clinical environment. Incumbent may be exposed to biohazards and communicable disease.
• Working in the presence of ophthalmic lasers; may be required to wear protective eye equipment.
• May work with blood, lab specimens, and other patient bodily fluids that require universal precautions.

Skills and abilities

• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-volume clinic.
• Ability to operate ophthalmic equipment and computers.
• Strong analytical skills to complete the technical aspects of patient examinations.
