Established in 2024 through the merger of Ulmer & Berne LLP and Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C., UB Greensfelder has quickly emerged as a super-regional powerhouse in the Midwest and in top-tier business centers.Position overview and application: The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will be responsible for the overall marketing, business development, and communications strategy for the firm. The CMO will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and leadership team to align marketing efforts with the firm’s goals and client needs. This role requires an in-depth understanding of the legal industry, client acquisition strategies, and branding, with the ability to oversee a range of marketing initiatives, including content development, digital marketing, events, public relations, and client relations programs.Key ResponsibilitiesMarketing Strategy & Leadership – Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy that aligns with the firm’s business objectives and target client base.Market Positioning & Brand Development – Position the firm as a thought leader in key practice areas; ensure brand messaging reflects the firm’s expertise and values.Competitor & Market Analysis – Conduct competitive analysis and industry research to inform strategy and adjust tactics.Business Development & Client Engagement – Oversee client engagement strategies, identify new opportunities, collaborate with attorneys to develop BD strategies, and pursue new matters.Lead Generation & Conversion – Develop BD strategies including targeting prospective clients and cross-selling services.Client Retention Programs – Create programs to maintain strong client relationships, including thought leadership content, newsletters, and events.Digital Marketing & Communications – Lead SEO/SEM, social media, content marketing, and website optimization; oversee engaging client-focused content and PR efforts.Thought Leadership & Industry Engagement – Develop content strategy (blogs, webinars, white papers) and manage speaking engagements and publications.Events & Conferences – Plan and execute key industry events and client seminars; ensure firm representation at relevant forums.Team Leadership & Development – Manage and mentor a marketing and BD team; collaborate with lawyers and practice groups.Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work with HR, IT, Finance, and other departments to align firm communications and branding.Budgeting & Financial Management – Oversee the marketing budget and ROI; monitor performance and adjust strategies as needed.Analytics & Reporting – Use KPIs to track campaign performance, client acquisition, and brand impact; report results to leadership.Client Feedback & Market Trends – Gather feedback and monitor market trends to refine strategies.QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, JD, or similar) is a plus.Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of marketing leadership experience, preferably in the legal industry. Proven success in developing and executing strategies that drive growth and brand awareness.
