Spanish Language Librarian

Are you a passionate librarian dedicated to serving Spanish speaking and multicultural communities? Do you thrive on creating connections, expanding access to resources, and developing services that support inclusivity and lifelong learning?

Arapahoe Libraries is seeking a Spanish Language Librarian to provide district-wide library services, community outreach, and professional mentorship. You will play a vital role in developing programs, advising patrons, and ensuring equitable access to resources for Spanish speaking patrons and those from ethnically diverse backgrounds.

This role focuses on program development, outreach, strategic planning, and staff mentoring. You will help ensure our libraries remain trusted, dynamic resources for learning, creativity, and community engagement.

About the Role
You will serve as a district resource supporting staff, patrons, and community partners. This position emphasizes building relationships with Spanish speaking and multicultural communities and developing bilingual programs. You will also contribute to the New Americans Collection and act as a subject matter expert in outreach and advisory services.

Key Responsibilities

Programs and Services

  • Provide a wide range of advisory services in Spanish and English
  • Develop and facilitate bilingual programs that support English literacy, multiculturalism, and use of library resources
  • Collaborate across departments to design and promote programming
  • Create and contribute content for the Arapahoe Libraries website

Community Outreach

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations and groups
  • Attend community meetings and events to promote library services
  • Partner with English Conversation Circles volunteers and English Language Acquisition teachers
  • Provide tours, class visits, and outreach to Spanish speaking and multicultural communities

Strategic Planning and Professional Development

  • Research trends in language and multicultural library services
  • Compile and analyze data on community needs to inform recommendations
  • Anticipate and respond to changes in technology and community dynamics
  • Share knowledge by attending, presenting, and publishing in professional forums

Spanish Fluency and Cultural Insight: Advanced Spanish language skills and insider cultural knowledge to connect meaningfully with patrons

Community Advocacy: Ability to serve as a strong advocate for Spanish speaking and multicultural communities within and beyond the library

Program Development and Strategic Planning: Experience designing impactful programs and using data to guide future initiatives

Trauma-Informed Approach: Sensitivity to the lived experiences of diverse patrons, with an ability to provide supportive and inclusive service

Collaborative Spirit: Skill in working across teams and with community partners to achieve shared goals

Adaptability: Initiative, independence, and the ability to prioritize in fast-paced environments

Equity-Focused Perspective: Commitment to inclusive services and culturally responsive programming

Alignment to ALD Core Values: Dedication to collaboration, equity, and innovation in all aspects of work

Qualifications

Required:

  • Two years of experience related to Spanish language services, multicultural services, or community engagement.
  • Master's degree in library and information studies or the ability to obtain one within three years (application required within six months of hire)
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Advanced Spanish language skills and cultural competency
  • Strong customer service, collaboration, and technology skills (Microsoft 365 and ability to learn new systems)

Preferred:

  • Experience developing and conducting instructional programs
  • Experience with public speaking and facilitation
  • Experience with project management and planning
  • Experience with collection development
