Times Opinion – Copy Editor
Times Opinion is looking for an experienced copy editor to work on Opinion’s high-profile signature journalism.

You have deep experience with copy editing and editorial judgment. You work collaboratively with story editors and fact-checkers, are digitally fluent, and are enthusiastic about Opinion’s daily report. You are platform agnostic and able to copy edit for any medium. You can raise potential standards concerns and push back on edits when appropriate.

This is a hybrid position based in New York City with regular in-office attendance per departmental guidance. Work hours may include some weekends.

Responsibilities

• Copy edit story text, headlines, captions and other display copy, elevating article clarity at the sentence level
• Ensure accuracy and consistency across editorials, guest essays, columns and videos
• Respond to changing priorities based on department needs and the news cycle
• Support and uphold our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to seek the truth
• Report to the Opinion Copy Chief

Basic Qualifications

• At least 5 years of copy-editing experience
• Experience working in multiple forms of media

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with the New York Times style guide (or other style guides)
• Familiarity with Times Opinion’s daily report
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends
• Experience meeting firm deadlines

Additional Note: This is a Guild position based in New York City.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $113,945.85 and $115,000 USD.
