Overview

The 3rd Judicial District’s Court Administration has immediate openings for Court Reporters across the 3rd District. Multiple positions are available in Northwest Iowa.

Compensation

The pay range for this position depends on relevant courtroom experience as a certified Court or Verbatim Reporter (Voice Reporter). Plus, possible additional special pay allowances per advanced certification. These certifications are: RMR or RDR and CRR, for stenographic reporters. Voice reporter certifications are RVR and CM. If a reporter transitions from Federal employment to state employment, the FCRR certification can be accepted in lieu of the CRR certification. A copy of your certificate and renewals is required and additional validation necessary to continue any special pay allowance.

Position details

Court & Verbatim Reporter positions are under the direction and supervision of the District Court Administrator or Assistance District Court Administrator, as the Chief Judge’s designees, and can be assigned to report on proceedings with any judge in any county in the 3rd Judicial District.

8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities

  • Captures court testimony and proceedings with stenography machine
  • Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request
  • Prepares transcripts
  • Performs general office work
  • Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings
  • Performs related work as determined by Judge, Chief Judge or designee
  • Electronic document filing required in all counties within the District
  • May be required to work for any Judicial Officer within the District per operational needs
  • Court Reporter will purchase and maintain court reporting software and stenotype machines and/or verbatim recording equipment

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency).

Must meet one:

  • Be a registered Professional Reporter (RPR) from the National Court Reporters Association.
  • Be a Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) from the National Verbatim Reporters Association.
  • Completed a court reporter training program.

Special Requirements

  • Must obtain an Iowa Certified Shorthand Reporter license within one year of employment. Certification must remain current.
  • The Court Reporter will purchase and maintain court reporting software and stenotype machines and/or verbatim recording equipment.
  • Travel required.
