El Camino Community College District is accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions for the 2025 fall semester to teach in person and/or online the following courses: COMS-100 (Public Speaking) and COMS-120 (Argumentation & Debate).

The faculty responsibilities include developing class curriculum to meet the requirements detailed in the Course Outline of Record, and assessing learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in alignment with El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and student support services. Some assignments may include dual-enrollment courses offsite on high school campuses.

Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, online or hybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For online or hybrid courses, completion of the college\'s distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teach quality online courses.

Required Qualifications

  • Master\'s degree in speech, communication studies, speech communications or organizational communication, OR
  • Equivalent qualifications — candidates not possessing the required qualification may complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent; OR
  • Valid California Community College instructor credential in the appropriate subject (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 1990); AND
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous college-level teaching experience.

Salary

Part-time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned and cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. Beginning rates are $113.77–$137.08 (lecture) and $86.23–$103.87 (lab) per hour, depending on education and experience.

Conditions of Employment

This is a part-time, temporary position for the fall semester, beginning August 25, 2025. Assignments may include off-site locations. Offer and acceptance of employment are subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit a Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security Card upon hire.
