Overview
In this Investigative Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) role, you’ll focus on investigative reporting, discovering and uncovering issues that impact communities. MMJs are enterprising storytellers who handle pitching, writing, shooting, interviewing, and editing, taking ownership of each step of the storytelling process and collaborating with a team to provide timely, accurate coverage across traditional and digital platforms.
Responsibilities
- Talk to members of your community to uncover issues that matter locally
- Produce investigative stories across platforms including TV, connected television, and digital
- Pitch story ideas, write scripts, shoot video, interview subjects, and edit packages
- Collaborate with a newsroom team to create compelling, timely reporting
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Television news reporting — 3+ years
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field; or comparable television work experience
- Technical Skills: Ability to shoot video, knowledge of video editing software, and effective use of social media
- Skills: Strong on-camera communication and writing/verbal expression
- Abilities: Innate curiosity and urgency in creating compelling stories; physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds
- Travel: Willing to travel to cover important stories in the community
- Schedule: Able to work under deadlines, flexible shifts, weekends and holidays, and respond to breaking news or severe weather
- Driver’s license: Valid for authorized driving in the state of residence
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a 24-hour news channel
Working Conditions
Work indoors in a climate-controlled environment and outdoors year-round; may encounter varying weather conditions
