Overview
FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network's national content.
Responsibilities
- The producer selects stories, assembles them in a rundown, creates graphics, writes and copy edits the stories and coordinates with reporters on reporter presentations.
- Take the show into the control room and time it to include commercial breaks. Develop newscasts or assigned production; work independently and be enterprising and self-motivated.
- Understand and apply journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques for on-air and online content. Strong writing and communications skills are essential.
- Gather, write, and edit news material and assemble show rundowns; generate story ideas, write and/or produce packages for air.
- Work closely with News Managers, Assignment Desk, news reporters and other newsroom staff on story conception and development and execution.
- Participate in editorial meetings, contribute ideas, and discuss show content. Producers may be assigned to produce or oversee special projects, productions, or live coverage of station-sponsored events.
- Operate broadcast production equipment and other communication equipment (intercom systems, microphones, newsroom computer systems, video screening computers, cellular phones, laptops or tablet devices).
- Work primarily in the newsroom and in the field, with occasional time in the studio. In-house conditions include studio/control room settings with temperatures from 55 to 75 degrees and humidity from 10 to 70+ percent; outside conditions vary with Michigan weather.
- Write news copy clearly in broadcast style for on-air, online, and digital platforms. Assemble material in a logical, organized fashion and present stories professionally for viewers and readers to understand local, national, and international news. Adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment and react in live situations to cover breaking news. Build and maintain relationships for newsgathering.
Qualifications
- Strong writing and Producing skills; ability to contribute ideas daily and recognize compelling story ideas for television.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment and to react in live situations to cover breaking news.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with peers and superiors and to develop contacts outside the building for newsgathering.
- Fluency in clear, broadcast-style news copy for multiple platforms.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $65,000.00-71,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
