General Description and Classification Standard: The purpose of this job is to effectively manage internal and external communications for the Department of Aviation Office of Communications at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This manager reports to the Assistant Director of Communications and is responsible for managing the Airport’s Speakers Bureau, developing speeches, PowerPoint presentations and talking points on behalf of the general manager and other senior executives. Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Manages internal communications, including compiling content for a monthly newsletter and managing a team of webmasters to keep Airport employees and stakeholders abreast of Airport priorities and initiatives; Manages the Airport’s intranet site, assigning and producing content; Serves as primary editor for the Airport’s website, updating content and troubleshooting areas as needed; Oversees the Aviation section of the City of Atlanta’s website; Oversees editing of internal and external communications produced by all Department of Aviation units, including updates on ATLNext; Works with the Marketing division to develop content for fliers, brochures, campaigns, advertorials and TV scripts for branding initiatives including, but not limited to, ATL SkyPointe, ATL Experiences and travel industry engagement. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills as well as thorough knowledge of proofreading and editing techniques. Knowledge of impression management, ability to write informative, concise articles and compelling, accurate talking points. Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, other employees, contractors and members of the general public. Ability to assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear manner. Ability to gather web analytics, oversee web trends and other material with efficiency and on deadline. Outstanding organizational, interpersonal and technical skills with attention to detail. Assemble data and create reports in a clear, concise and effective manner. Ability to be highly effective in a fast-paced environment and to lead and motivate a team to perform. Flexibility to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Strong organizational skills and ability to perform within deadlines and under pressure. Creative problem solver and self-starter with a desire to serve the public interest. A commitment to public service and a good sense of humor are desirable. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or a related discipline and 5-7 years of experience in a related field Preference: Previous experience as a copy editor for a newspaper, magazine or similar publication is a plus. Work Schedule: This position follows the City’s hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change at any time to five (5) days in-person work.
