This is an on-site role with work being performed at the Capitol Complex in Washington, D.C.

Radio Systems Maintenance Technician — Role

As the Radio Systems Maintenance Technician, you will provide technical support for the United States Capitol Police (USCP) by maintaining and troubleshooting radio systems and communications equipment. The technician will be part of the Office of Information Systems (OIS) Radio Services Division (RSD), ensuring that critical radio communications infrastructure remains fully operational and supports the communication needs of the USCP. This includes performing regular maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to both hardware and software for a variety of radio systems used by law enforcement personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and maintenance of Motorola Trunked and Conventional radio system core hardware, network devices, and associated components.
  • Complete moto-patching of equipment, devices and network components.
  • Maintain RF antenna systems of various frequencies and power levels with components to include: transmit combiners, receive multi-couplers, duplexers, pass and reject filtering, diplexers, and precision tuned filter assemblies with test equipment to include Vector Network Analyzers, return loss bridges, tracking generators with spectrum analyzers, antenna analyzers and power meters.
  • Ascertain performance of equipment is at or exceeding minimum expected manufacturer performance and strive to exceed minimum levels to ensure best performance of radio sites for coverage in both talk-in and talk-out coverage to selected service areas.
  • Complete inventory of all systems, document the components and devices, maintain logs on performance and changes, and complete site binders associated with site layout, service entities for all equipment, wiring diagrams and network references, and descriptions of service area sites for offline reference during missions.
  • Report items found outside of expected operation or performance to the COR for next steps to monitor, restore or enhance depending on risk to operational mission.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with Motorola Solutions equipment.
  • Training and experience with:
  • P25 trunking systems platforms and components
  • VMS hardware
  • Juniper SRX and ACX routers / switches
  • GGM8000 routers
  • Aruba switches
  • Fortinet Firewalls
  • Motorola GTR Base stations
  • CORE hardware and network devices
  • Dispatch sub-site network devices and console PCs
  • TRAK GPS timing sources
  • Motorola RDM timing sources
  • Conventional resources to include CCGW, Consolettes, MCD5000, MCG8000, RGU
  • IPLCs, RGU IP Link Converters, and similar hardware
  • Subject matter expert level experience with test equipment including: Viavi service monitor with autotest, Anritsu LMR SiteMaster 412e, tracking generator with return loss bridge, telephone line test set, Digital VOM, Ethernet test set, USB test set
  • Programming software for LMR devices and equipment
  • Technical maintenance and awareness of AC and DC power plants
  • Experience inspecting AC power supporting communications equipment and DC power systems used in vehicles or fixed installations
  • Experience inspecting and verifying proper operation of UPS and emergency power systems (generators, DC power plants, and similar backup power systems)
  • Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out procedures when opening power sources for maintenance and power-up procedures from the program office when required
  • Experience with similar equipment and devices used to maintain trunked and conventional radio systems
