This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date.
Salary note: The previously determined range for this position was $36.08/hr to $80.98/hr. The final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.

Position Summary
The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and works to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and nursing excellence into clinical practice. The role engages with patients and families to advocate for the patient, develops an educational plan, and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care. It participates in organizational and department leadership activities and supports unit goals in daily behavior.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient’s family.
- Collaborates with other health care team members to promote effective patient care.
- Verifies and implements orders from physicians and documents accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Engages and obtains information from patient and/or family to develop an appropriate educational plan.
- Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to patient’s changing needs.
- Delegates appropriate tasks to support personnel per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides feedback.
- Advocates for patients, families, and the community; participates in shared leadership and professional growth.
- Assumes the role of Charge Nurse when assigned and utilizes available resources.
- Collaborates with other nurses to mentor staff and students; serves as preceptor or resource as needed.
- Engages in ongoing professional development and identifies learning needs.
- Other duties as assigned and participate in special projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
- Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit-specific certifications.
- Current ACLS.
- Labor & Delivery experience (minimum one year).
- Basic EFM Training/Certificate required prior to completion of orientation.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) to facilitate therapeutic relationships.
- Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to obtain AWHONN intermediate/advanced fetal monitoring certification.
