System Spaces UI Engineer — Cupertino, California, United States • Software and Services

The System Spaces team is responsible for iconic system experiences on Apple devices, including the Home Screen, Lock Screen, Control Center on iOS and iPadOS, as well as Widgets, Wallpaper, and Notifications across Apple platforms. The role involves prototyping new user interface paradigms, implementing features, defining APIs, fixing bugs, and improving performance. Candidates should have strong software design, debugging skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make user interactions fluid and enjoyable. This role works cross-functionally with Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, and Design; strong communication and collaboration skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype new user interface paradigms and implement new features.
  • Define APIs and fix bugs; improve performance.
  • Contribute to software design and debugging across the System Spaces stack.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering and design teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience in one or more of the following: developing apps with UIKit and/or SwiftUI; architecting and implementing reusable public or private APIs; operating systems programming.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent understanding of optimization and performance issues across OS software layers.
  • Understanding of inter-process communication and systems development.

Pay & Benefits

Base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple offers additional compensation programs, stock programs, and benefits including medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, discounts on products and services, and tuition reimbursement for eligible education-related expenses. The role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commissions and relocation assistance.
