Full time site Designer who is capable to self-manage a daily workload of multiple design tasks.
The preferred candidate will:
- Be required to work at the nuclear plant site. This is not a remote position.
- Be expected to attain a badge for unescorted access that will require security screening and pass the required training and tests to obtain the badge. Prefer individual with prior site experience and quals if available.
- Multidiscipline capabilities but fully proficient in the electrical discipline (while also have experience with other disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical, Instrumentation & Controls)
- Proficient in Bentley MicroStation
- Ability to use other design tools such as Autodesk Suite is a plus.
- Physically capable to perform walkdowns in the power plant to obtain measurements and design inputs including:
- Climb ladders and scaffolds.
- Wear anti-contamination clothing and respirators if required.
- Lift 50-lbs
- Be able to work in construction and operating plant environments for extended periods of time (entire work shift)
- Ability to read and interpret Electrical Single Line Diagrams, Block Diagrams, and Schematics
- Preferably understand and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Preferably understand and interpret Civil and Architectural drawings and plans
- Preferably have experience with Cable Management Software such as GENESIS EDSION
- Preferably have experience with Work Management Database Software such as: Asset Suite, MAXIMO, PASSPORT
- Preferably have experienced with 3D Scanning technology and processing 3D point cloud data
Responsibilities will include:
- Performing Designer's Walkdowns during all stages of power plant modification projects: planning, detailed design, installation/construction, close-out to document as-installed conditions and to support preparation of design documents.
- Planning a walkdown to successfully obtain the required design inputs (including travel paths, required access (scaffold, confined space, etc.), clearances, work orders, etc.)
- Compile walkdown document packages containing drawings, procedures, and other engineering deliverables.
- Effectively communicate all aspects of the walkdown to both S&L and Palisades Plant Management (walkdown objectives, affected equipment, travel path locations, necessary support to obtain desired information, and safety measures)
- Obtain field measurements using basic measuring tools (tape measure, ruler, caliper, etc.)
- Obtain photographs of existing conditions
- Obtain 3D scan data, if needed.
- Prepare walkdown reports.
- Interface with engineering personnel, as well as other contractors, to communicate the obtained information and respond to questions.
- Compile existing plant documents from the existing document control system (Open Text) as well as other document archives, vendor files, microfilm, etc. as required for design input.
- Interface with various plant personnel including Client Project Oversight, Engineering, Operations, Installers/Construction Personnel, Technicians, etc. in response to emergent field issues.
- Assist the Responsible Engineers (RE), on-site project engineers, and installers in developing potential solutions to field issues including:
- Changes to conduit routing
- Changes to pipe routing
- Changes to pipe and conduit supports.
- Component changes
- Preparation of design deliverables including
- Sketches issued to assist the construction/installer.
- Modify existing design drawings redlines, revision clouds.
- At times, the Designer may be asked to develop new drawings from scratch (regardless of discipline).
