State of Connecticut Introduction The State of Connecticut , Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has an exciting opportunity for a Seasonal Resource Assistant to support our Communication Unit based out of DEEP Headquarters in Hartford, CT.
Position highlights The Communications Assistant role at DEEP offers a unique opportunity to blend creativity with purpose, centered around public service. This position goes beyond traditional communication tasks; it's about enhancing public engagement and awareness on crucial issues that affect the safety, security, and affordability of life in Connecticut. What distinguishes this role is the variety of responsibilitiesfrom developing impactful digital content and managing intricate email systems to capturing compelling visual narratives through photography and videography. This role is perfectly suited for someone who is passionate about serving the public and proficient in modern communication tools, offering a platform to significantly influence community well-being while advancing professionally in a vibrant and supportive environment.
Duties And Responsibilities Include
Monitoring and compiling relevant news clips; Managing and optimizing email marketing systems, including campaign setup and staff onboarding; Curating content for social media platforms; Posting and updating content on WordPress; Capturing high-quality photos and videos at events and DEEP locations; Conducting basic multimedia editing for images, graphics, and videos; Utilizing digital marketing tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Google Merchant to enhance online engagement.
This position is not to exceed 1,040 hours total or 6 months in duration.

Selection Plan
Important information for applicants If selected for interview, applicants will be contacted by the divisions hiring supervisor anticipated for March/April of 2025. If offered employment, new-hires must complete all new-hire paperwork prior to their first day of employment. This includes providing a copy of a state issued ID and acceptable documents as required for Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9 form). Employment is contingent upon completion of a background check, which includes a review of employment, criminal and motor vehicle. DEEP is committed to providing a safe and nondiscriminatory employment and educational environment that complies with policies relating to safety, diversity, discrimination, and harassment. Applicants who receive an offer of employment will be required to complete mandatory trainings in the above areas, via an online platform prior to beginning on-site work duties.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY Ability to follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of SEO best practices to optimize content for higher visibility; Familiarity with DEEPs mission to better align communication strategies; Experience in public sector communications, which can provide valuable context for the role; Advanced multimedia editing skills to create more sophisticated visual content; Experience with data analysis tools to measure and report on campaign effectiveness; Proficiency in using Google Merchant to enhance online marketing efforts; Proficiency with digital marketing tools such as WordPress, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud; Proficiency with written and verbal communication; Ability to perform basic multimedia editing for photos, videos, and graphics; Experience with photography and videography; Experience with organization and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; Familiarity with email marketing platforms and best practices.
Special Requirements
Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate. Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following: Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license. Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides. College training in a specific field. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific state facilities. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.
Physical Requirements Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
