Overview
The University of Chicago Research Computing Center (RCC), a unit in the Office of Research, provides high-end research computing resources to researchers. The RCC enables research by offering centrally managed High-Performance Computing (HPC), storage, visualization resources, and related support and training. The RCC is seeking a highly motivated Communications & Outreach Specialist to increase the visibility of RCC programs, services, and achievements, and to plan, coordinate, and execute outreach activities and events in collaboration with RCC leadership. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days onsite per week, including occasional evening and weekend work. Responsibilities
Draft and/or coordinate communications and marketing materials. Write RCC’s annual report and other special or ad hoc reports or materials. Manage RCC’s social media presence. Plan, coordinate, schedule, and advertise RCC programs, events, education, and training activities. Plan RCC’s annual signature event, Mind Bytes. Coordinate with internal and external collaborators, speakers, and sponsors to execute all components of the event. Organize and coordinate outreach programs. Coordinate RCC’s participation in campus events. Compile and analyze events, training and outreach metrics. Manage and maintain RCC website. Proactively seek and suggest additional outreach and marketing opportunities. May serve as a backup to other administrative staff or support other center programs or services. Network with other communication and event specialists from other units on campus. Disseminate information to keep the public informed of RCC programs, accomplishments, or perspectives with moderate guidance. Solve a range of straightforward problems, with work assignments that can be broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity. Perform other related work as needed. Qualifications
Education : Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree in a related field. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or related field. Work Experience : Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2–5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Experience with event planning, developing event marketing collateral, and working in IT or an academic environment are preferred. Preferred Competencies

Ability to manage and prioritize diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and quality. Strategic and creative thinking, project management, and planning skills. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, creativity, flexibility, and attention to detail. High degree of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
