Chicago Theological Seminary , a graduate school affiliated with the United Church of Christ, serves God, diverse religious and spiritual communities, and the larger world by educating persons theologically and cultivating the intellectual, spiritual, and ethical capacities of lay and ordained religious leaders, scholars, activists, and others who contribute to the increase of justice and mercy.
- Serve as the primary staff member responsible for the cataloging, classification and processing of print and electronic library materials; inventory control; as well as functions related to public service such as circulation and interlibrary loans. Maintains library materials and equipment.
- Participates in the management of library systems related to technical services.
- Performs copy cataloging as well as original cataloging of all formats.
- Assists in the development and oversight of processes for authority control, database maintenance, and other catalog enhancements.
- Responsible for the management and processing interlibrary loan requests and facilitating all functions relating to the interlibrary loan department.
- Manage ILL statistics (OCLC) – keep monthly log of borrow and lend activity for copies and loans.
- Assist students, faculty and staff with reference services.
- Check-out and check-in books, journals, reserve books and other library materials.
- Process item holds, recalls, reserves, renewals and other patron requests, including collecting material from compact shelving in the basement.
- Performs and/or supervises the physical processing of all library materials for acquisition and withdrawal.
- Maintains statistical and inventory records and participates in the inventory process, including record maintenance.
- Direct the activities of and allocates work to Library Student Assistants and other staff assigned to the technical services area by the Library Director.
- Manage ILL statistics (OCLC) – keep monthly log of borrow and lend activity for copies and loans.
- Keeping track of ebook turnaways (EBSCO Admin platform). Cataloging ebooks.
- Management of physical serials, esp. the bundling of serials by volume/year for basement storage
- Developing Cite&Write with the Language and Writing Center.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with MS Office Suite.
- Ability to understand library terminology and standard library practices, including the Library of Congress classification system, AACR2/RDA cataloging rules, and MARC 21 bibliographic record structure.
- Operation and use of computers, library automation software including OCLC bibliographic database, and Microsoft Office Suite software; Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cataloging, acquisitions, and e-resource management functions in EBSCO Admin, ALMA, OCLC Connexion cataloging client preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university preferred.
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university preferred.
