The

Senior Mechanical Designer

is responsible for developing accurate and manufacturable designs of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and conductive copper bus assemblies for low- to medium-voltage switchgear. This role ensures designs meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and manufacturing best practices, while contributing to efficiency, quality, and company growth. As a senior team member, you will collaborate with electrical designers, engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel, while also serving as a key resource in solving complex design challenges.

If you thrive in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and want to apply your expertise to innovative power distribution systems, we'd like to hear from you.

Schedule:

Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm

What You'll Do:

Create detailed 3D models and drawings of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and bus assemblies using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor). Ensure all designs align with manufacturability, client specifications, safety, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate closely with electrical designers to accurately integrate structural and copper bus elements into client drawing packages. Partner cross-functionally with project management, manufacturing, sales, estimating, and field service to support project execution and resolve technical issues. Prepare bills of materials, assembly drawings, and cut sheets to support manufacturing in a timely and efficient manner. Reduce cycle time by reusing or adapting existing designs where applicable. Contribute to design reviews and process improvements that enhance quality, reduce costs, and improve reliability. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced designers when needed. Qualifications

Education & Certification

High School Diploma or GED, Required. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferred. Experience

5+ years of mechanical design experience in a switchgear, electrical equipment, or heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Proficiency with CAD design tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor) required. Experience preparing parts lists, bills of materials, and assembly drawings for manufacturing. Technical Skills & Knowledge

Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, sheet metal fabrication, and machining. Familiarity with press brake and CNC punch equipment (e.g., Accupress Press Brake, Trump Punch). Understanding of product lifecycle management, quality control, and cost optimization. Competence with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP/MRP systems (AS400, SQL Server, etc.) preferred. Professional Skills

Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information to cross-functional teams and clients. Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and integrity. Advanced math skills, including the ability to calculate proportions, dimensions, and tolerances.
