JOB SUMMARY

Creates graphic solutions for a wide variety of print, social media, photographic, display, and presentation projects. This position will support the Marketing Production Manager in graphic design duties and print production management, including coordinating vendor relationships and purchasing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Graphic Arts, Graphic Design, Applied Design, Fine Art, or other closely related field, plus two (2) years of experience in Graphic Design and use of computer graphics programs and equipment; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Designs and produces a wide variety of print, photographic, display, and presentation materials to promote division and programs.

Consults with in-house client(s) and team to develop design concepts for graphic art. Follows all work to completion, coordinating publication with print companies and making to make revisions and enhancements.

Plans and arranges art layouts for printed materials such as posters, brochures, newsletters, reports and bookmarks.

Evaluates, designs, and produces displays and printed materials, signs, and websites.

Creates graphics for the Internet. May design, modify, enhance and/or update web pages.

Proofreads articles, blogs, periodicals, newsletters, and brochures and ensures articles are formatted correctly and are consistent with established journalistic procedures; arranges for printing and distribution of publications as directed.

Photographs programs, special events and staff activities.

Assists with training staff in best practices to promote division and materials.

Interacts with County and community organizations to plan, design and launch projects to promote division services.

Researches and purchases display and art materials for division.

Plans, coordinates, and executes division-related events.

May schedule professional and community art exhibits for division. Updates and implements guidelines regarding public exhibits and displays within locations.

Manages multiple projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

Knowledge of:

Advanced principles, practices and techniques of digital art, graphic design, layout, web graphics and illustration

Copyright laws and regulations for use of printed and artistic materials, photos, graphics, etc.

Display and sign materials

Visual and artistic design

Web page editing and design

Oral and written communication skills

Rules and guidelines for using social media programs such as Facebook, Twitter, and blogs

Skills and Abilities to:

Apply rules of grammar, punctuation, and spelling

Operate computer, scanner, laser printer, production equipment, digital camera, and other graphics-related equipment

Use current graphic design software (Adobe InDesign Creative Suite for Macintosh preferred)

Learn quickly and adapt as technology and graphic design techniques become more sophisticated

Organize workloads, multi-task, and prioritize tasks to adhere to deadlines

Problem-solve and create action plans

Work independently and as part of a team

Establish and maintain effective working relationships that demonstrate sensitivity, tact, and professionalism

Publish articles, blogs, and brochures

Stay current on technology and graphic design techniques

Closely monitor and post to social media sites

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:

An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.

Are not considered merit employees.

Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.

Additional Information

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION

This position works 20 hours a week in-office during business hours, Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with an occasionaly additional hours depending on work load.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach. Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
