Job Summary

The Audio Visual (AV) Services Engineer will support the strategic design, implementation, and maintenance of UCSF's AV systems and infrastructure. This role entails providing engineering and technical support to ensure the seamless operation of AV infrastructure, minimizing downtime, and optimizing efficiency. The Engineer's responsibilities include designing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining AV equipment across various platforms. Additionally, the AV Services Engineer may offer technical guidance and training to other ITS teams, ensuring adherence to industry best practices in all technology-related procedures.

The AV Services Engineer will positively impact UCSF's operations and culture by ensuring UCSF's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the University's mission. The AV Services Engineer will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across customers and stakeholders. This role will execute UCSF's vision while modeling UCSF's culture and values.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $69,700 - $149,900 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

Infrastructure Services (IS) provides 24/7 support and strives for innovation and excellence in secure and efficient IT services.

The Digital Workplace Services team within Infrastructure Services manages UCSF's integrated communications, collaboration, and AV systems, including telephony, voicemail, AV technology, video conferencing, and collaboration platforms.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience/training in information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, or communications.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in AV technology, unified communications, information technology, or network operations.
  • Proficiency in AV technologies, including signal flow, equipment functionality, AV IT control systems, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with AV integration principles, design, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong technical skills in configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining AV systems and equipment.
  • Experience managing phases of AV projects from scope to final walk-through and testing.
  • Analytical skills to assess AV requirements and recommend solutions.
  • Understanding of networking concepts relevant to AV systems (IP, VLANs, streaming).
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and cabling requirements for AV projects.
  • Strong creativity and problem-solving abilities for AV deployment and operation.
  • Ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences in clear, business-friendly terms.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects and work with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of CAD software, AV control systems, and DSP programming platforms.
  • Experience designing AV solutions with detailed schematics and system diagrams.
  • Experience in complex higher education environments (academic, medical, research, administrative).
  • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) or related certifications; CCNA; manufacturer certifications (Crestron, Extron, QSC, etc.).
