Job Description

The AV Service Technician's responsibilities include consulting with clients, traveling to job sites, and performing diagnostic tests, maintenance, and repair of Audio Video systems. Basic code loading and programming experience with Crestron and Control4 are required. Experience and/or ability to interface with diverse clientele is required. Prior experience in commercial sound, video, lighting control, projection systems, corporate conference room sound and video, and videoconferencing is preferred. The successful candidate is self-motivated, results-oriented, and has strong oral and written communication skills. High standards for integrity, work ethic, professional presentation, and quality work are required. A long-term employment opportunity is sought. A personal interest in electronics, music, sound, lighting, video, and/or security systems is preferred. The ability to play a musical instrument and/or read music is also preferred.

Scope of Responsibilities: Level 1

  • Ability to read basic plans of audio and video
  • Pulling low voltage wire (new construction and retrofit) according to basic designs and project manager or lead tech instructions
  • Tone and Test cabling, able to use a multimeter
  • Neat and legible labeling of wires and components according to company standards
  • Experience with termination including RJ45, DB9, HD15, RCA, BNC, and other compression, crimper or solder terminations; Fiber termination, installation, and splicing a plus
  • Understanding of trimming-out basic in-wall/in-ceiling speakers with or without pre-construction brackets; ensuring trim-out products are straight/level and aligned; laser level is a must
  • Ability to rack-mount equipment, lace rear bars, rack rails, and terminate basic power to a power strip, labeling all cables
  • General knowledge of basic systems and connectivity
  • Install and setup skills for basic installed systems
  • Ensuring items on punch lists are completed in a timely fashion
  • General knowledge of basic hand tools and safe operation
  • Ability to work efficiently and neatly in client homes and businesses; professional appearance and courteous conduct
  • Sense of urgency for organization and quality of work
  • Ability to work and communicate with other team members and take direction from team lead and project manager
  • Assist other technicians with installations when needed
  • Clean daily job trash and materials; weekly complete cleaning of vans
  • Familiarity with safety standards and PPE guidelines

Scope of Responsibilities: Level 2

  • General knowledge in installation, service, testing and maintenance of equipment including speakers, amplifiers, projectors, displays
  • Ability to punch down/terminate all 66 and 110 phone blocks and label data blocks, CATV distribution, and satellite systems
  • Installation of control systems; know how to upload and download programming code
  • Full understanding of products being sold and their signal routing
  • Trained eye for detail and pride in quality installation
  • Ability to install and configure audio systems and video projection devices
  • Understanding of different audio and video signal qualities
  • Ability to solve problems without outside assistance and to read product manuals
  • Awareness of job-site issues and helpful resolutions for Project Management
  • Excellent debugging skills and ability to troubleshoot installations
  • Construct, install, wire and label equipment racks; read full plans of network, phone, TV, audio, video and control
  • Sense of urgency for organization and quality of work; ability to work with team members

Scope of Responsibilities: Level 3 – NotRequired, advanced level tech only

  • Installation and setup of control systems with IR, RF, IP, CEC, and RS232 protocols
  • Uploading and editing programs into control systems
  • Knowledge of Pro-Audio, Residential, and Commercial systems including speakers, DSP devices, mixers, EQs, processors, amplifiers, and outboard gear
  • Ability to install accessory equipment in conference tables, floorboxes, in-ceiling cameras, lighting control, shade control, and surveillance systems
  • Understanding of wireless systems (RF environment) – mics, LAN, control, and other devices
  • Ability to write and modify audio programs for common DSPs
  • Strong understanding of Ethernet (LAN) technologies; configure switches, routers, and port forwarding
  • Understanding of OSHA, ADA requirements, applicable codes
  • Ability to fully commission any level of system including residential, commercial, or pro-audio
  • Strong knowledge in installation, service, testing and maintenance of projectors and related equipment including electric screens, lifts, and mounts
  • Installation and setup of video conferencing system endpoints
