This position reports directly to the Senior AV Technician and works in close collaboration with the Director of Operations of The People’s House; Facilities team; the Exhibits team; and external vendors.
This position oversees the functioning of the exhibit’s A/V systems, including all audio, video, and display equipment. The Audio-Visual Technician needs to be knowledgeable about various A/V equipment, including Panasonic projectors and video displays, Brightsign Media Players, Microsoft Surface tablets, Windows PCs, LG Transparent OLED Monitors, Q-SYS audio systems, Dante audio, and other equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all exhibit technology is operating, updated, cleaned, and generally maintained in accordance with maintenance standards.
- Conduct daily (morning) walks of the exhibit spaces to ensure all exhibit systems are functioning. Conduct periodic daily inspections during operational hours. Conduct daily (evening) walks of the exhibit spaces to ensure all exhibit systems are shut down correctly.
- Rapidly diagnose and resolve system issues during opening hours.
- Accurately contribute to and co-manage an exhibit log to document problems and maintenance actions.
- Ensure service calls and work orders are handled, updated and closed in a timely fashion with accurate detailed information in each work order and listing response times and completion times.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with external A/V providers and exhibit integrators.
- Perform minor repairs and routine cleaning of all equipment in the exhibits, lobby, classrooms, and offices.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe IT/AV rack room locations.
- Assist with set-up, execution, and break down of A/V systems for events outside of working hours, as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Two (2) or more years of relevant experience in the A/V field, preferably for other museums or cultural institutions.
- Knowledge of CMS systems, Brightsign media players, computers, projectors, video displays, and IT/AV rack rooms.
- Ability to lift 50-80 pounds.
- Comfortable working on large (16ft) ladders.
- Able to work on the required schedule, with availability for evenings for special events, as needed. Coverage may be requested on other days, as well.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working for a museum or cultural institution.
- Knowledge about video capturing, editing, and production.
- Relevant certifications and/or a higher level of education. CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I certification preferred.
