Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Manages assignment desk staff to find relevant, compelling news content for digital and linear platforms
• Decides daily broadcast and digital content, assigns crews and manages field crews’ workflow and live logistics throughout the day
• Works with reporters, photographers, producers to determine story selection, elements and backup ideas
• Keeps team informed of developments throughout the day
• Listens to scanners, answers phones and emails, researches and vets pitches to determine what makes a great story
• Coordinates live shots and content sharing with affiliates
• Represents and enforces station policy in resolution of situations that may arise
• Maintains various station accounts used by the desk for gathering and confirmation information
• Be involved in long-term planning of stories and news events
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism is preferred; market knowledge is preferred
• Fluency in English
• Extensive knowledge of editorial standards, ethics and media law
• Superior organizational skills; effective oral and written communication
• Proficiency with technology; thorough knowledge of newsroom and field workflow
• Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills
• Ability to manage under extreme pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to operate as both a team member and a team leader
• Willingness to take suggestions, participate in decision-making, and recognize various points of view
• Ability to interact productively with other employees of the station
