Position Summary

As a Design Director of Fashion, you will be responsible for creating designs exclusively for Private Brands and develop trend strategies that support the Walmart Apparel Strategic Business Unit (SBU) merchandising goals. You will assure that Walmart's private brand DNA/guidelines, trends, aesthetic/style, quality and value all support the customers’ needs and lead the market. You will be responsible for setting the brands seasonal fashion direction and align with broader Walmart strategies. You\'ll help ensure merchant leadership is aligned with the creative direction and assortment.
What you\'ll do
Design leadership for Denim private brands: create and execute private brand design strategy and execution, support long term business plans, and prioritize strategic programs. Build and maintain a winning brand aesthetic and DNA/guardrails. Analyze competition, customer behavior, industry trends, and the macro environment. Develop and execute a strategic, customer-centric vision across channels.

Responsibilities and Impact
- Brand Execution: Oversee all aspects of the brand including brand management, design, merchandising analytics, and storytelling. Lead the design vision, execution and identification of each brand, ensuring the merchant strategy and brand guidelines are followed to ensure a consistent design aesthetic on the floor and online. Be the key decision maker on brand aesthetic, design, silhouettes, and fabrics/materials. Translate vision into product using appropriate materials and a supply base. Collaborate with Product Development and Sourcing on supplier matrix, direct imports, pricing, and supplier-factory relationships. Partner with marketing and brand services to ensure cohesive brand vision across packaging and promotions.
- Merchandising Differentiation: Assess competitive landscape, determine competitive advantages, and develop a winning strategy. Adapt to the omni retail environment and continually offer new experiences to increase Walmart\'s market and customer wallet share, as well as retention.
- Partnership with Leaders: Partner with other Senior Leaders to align Brand collections and strategy with other business units. Collaborate with omni Merchandising Operations to achieve Omni SBU Merchandising objectives.
- Transformative Talent Development: In partnership with People Partner, develop a talent strategy for teams to transform the Design function and enable career growth while maintaining a high-performance culture.
- Brand Customer Experience: Deliver Walmart exclusive brand experiences across channels by offering private label collections of high-quality, high-value products. Aim to improve customer experience, sales, conversion, and satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, textile design, or related area and 8 years’ experience in apparel design, garment construction, or related area. Option 2: 10 years’ experience in apparel design, garment construction, or related area. 5 years’ supervisory experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field; 10+ years in apparel design with denim expertise; proven leadership of design teams; strong eye for trend, proportion, fabric, and wash development; excellent communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration; experience with global sourcing and vendor networks; ability to balance creativity with business objectives in a high-volume retail environment.
Portfolio Required. This role is onsite in our New York office (45 W 25th St, New York, NY).

The annual salary range for this position is $156,000.00-$312,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Other compensation may include stock.
