Location: Los Angeles, CA (On-site, Part-Time/Project-Based with potential for expansion)

Compensation: $50-$70/hr

Job Summary

We are seeking a Fashion Designer to help us create a line of upcycled denim harnesses. This is a chance to lead a new, experimental product line inspired by leather bondage and made for everyday wear. This is an opportunity to work with all aspects of design, construction, sourcing, and production. We have a multidisciplinary background, strong roots in the LGBTQ community, and a DIY attitude.

The ideal candidate for this position is LA-based, deeply familiar with materials and construction, and excited about solving design challenges at the intersection of fetish aesthetics, queer culture, and fashion.

About Macrocosm

Macrocosm is an early-stage, LA-based fashion and textile startup producing digitally printed fabrics with a maximalist, urban decay aesthetic. Our patterns are captured from real-world locations, blending hyperlocal storytelling with fashion and technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Macrocosm founder on design direction for denim harnesses.
  • Translate conceptual ideas into technical sketches, patterns, and prototypes.
  • Source denim, hardware, and mixed materials suitable for durable accessories.
  • Direct and manage sewing machinist to produce samples.
  • Problem-solve structural and functional design challenges (fit, strength, comfort, style).
  • Oversee sampling and iterations, ensuring pieces are wearable and aligned with fetish-wear sensibilities.
  • Contribute design insight for future accessory collections within this line.

Must haves

  • Based in Los Angeles (in-person collaboration required).
  • Experience in denim construction and accessories design.
  • Portfolio showing relevant work (fetish wear, accessories, avant-garde design).
  • LGBTQIA+ friendly and interest in fetish aesthetics.

Even better haves

  • Experience with leatherwork or accessory hardware design.
  • Direct experience with fetish-wear design and production.
  • Connections with local sample makers, fabric suppliers, or accessory hardware vendors.
  • An experimental or avant-garde design sensibility.
