Overview

Join to apply for the Sr. Design Technologist, Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios role at Amazon

Shape the future of cinematic storytelling: for creators, by creators. We're seeking a Sr Design Technologist to join our team to help reimagine how premium video content is made using breakthrough multi-modal AI capabilities.

Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios is inventing an AI-powered creative suite that supports end-to-end production: ideation, storyboarding, character design, animation, scene composition, localization, and real-time iteration -- built for professional creators and studios.

As a Sr Design Technologist, you’ll transform ambiguous concepts into high-fidelity interactive prototypes and creative concepts that clarify requirements, validate model capabilities, and accelerate delivery across the production pipeline. You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with Product, Engineering, Science, and Studio leaders in a high-ownership, “startup within Amazon” environment focused on creator delight and production-grade workflows.

We’re especially interested in candidates who’ve built tools for animation or worked closely with creative roles (e.g., technical artist, animator, etc.) and who are comfortable bridging traditional digital content creation pipelines and tools (e.g., Maya, Blender, Unreal, etc.) with modern AI-native creative solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Prototype core animation workflows and produce interactive demos that make model capabilities tangible and drive product/UX/engineering decisions.
  • Act as the 'voice of the creator', helping us better understand creative needs and map them to technical solutions.
  • Bridge AI and studio pipelines by exploring adapters and data flows between our surfaces and DCC tools/pipeline formats.
  • Ground prototypes in creator feedback via sessions; translate insights into design and technical changes that preserve expert control while enabling AI assist.
  • Collaborate deeply across Product, Engineering, Science, and Studio Ops on requirements, roadmaps, and delivery; present at the right altitude, from design reviews to executive demos.
  • Raise the bar for the DT craft: document patterns, mentor peers, and improve our frameworks and practices.

A day in the life

Kick off with a cross-functional sync (Product, Science, Engineering, Creative) to align on goals for a shot-to-scene prototype. Jump into a creator session with an animation lead to test a rig-aware layout flow; capture notes on where AI assist helps and where fine-grained, animator-level control is essential. After lunch, profile a renderer/perf bottleneck and land a reference implementation for a localization experience with Studio Ops. Pair with an SDE to plan the path from prototype to production and prep a concise demo for an exec review.

About The Team

We’re a small, high-ownership “startup within Amazon,” formed by Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios to invent a unified, AI-powered creative toolkit that accelerates how premium video gets made. Our mission is to empower creators with tools that are powerfully capable yet delightfully simple—preserving creative control while unlocking new velocity through AI. We operate from first principles, learn directly from working creators, and hold a high bar for craft, safety, and storytelling magic. If you’re motivated by invention and inspired by storytellers, this is your seat at the table.
