Job Description
Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or group writing consultations in a supportive environment to students across disciplines to enhance academic and professional writing skills.
- Engage in teaching in a one-on-one setting as part of the Writing Center duties; no additional teaching beyond the Center requirements is required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred).
- Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutoring or instructional setting.
- Experience working with community college students.
- Working knowledge of writing concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations.
- Ability to explain concepts to others effectively.
- Ability to communicate study strategies to ensure academic success.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds; patience and positive attitude in fostering an encouraging learning environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively and accurately with attention to detail; strong customer service skills and ability to develop productive relationships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
- Sensitivity to community needs and appropriate responsiveness.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment. The area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. The employee may sit to perform duties and use a computer; walking, standing, bending, stooping, and carrying items may be required. Travel to meetings and conferences away from the worksite may be required.
Compensation
Set-Rate Non-Bargaining Part-Time Position: $20.91/hour.
