Lunar Outpost is dedicated to creating a permanent presence in space, while also driving positive impacts here on Earth. We are currently seekinga Mechanical Designer to contribute to our mission in a dynamic startup environment. As a Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for thedesign and iteration of parts, subsystems, and vehicle architectures for lunar mobility platforms in CAD. This may include structures, mechanisms, routing, DFMA, drawings, etc., as applicable to creating mature and complete vehicle designs.
KeyResponsibilities:
Work on a team of engineers in an interdisciplinary environment, contributing to multiple concurrent projects and helping to ensure adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards
Contribute to and maintain vehicle CAD
Develop vehicle subsystems
Design and iterate primary and secondary vehicle structures
Design and iterate spaceflight mechanisms, with consideration for torque/force/travel margin, lubrication, dust sealing, tolerances, materials, etc., to ensure reliable and repeatable mechanism function
Lay out fluid piping and cable harness routing in CAD
Continually improve vehicle CAD for mass savings and for ease of manufacturing and assembly
Use GD&T to assign appropriate tolerances to parts and assemblies
Contribute to mechanical documentation and design reviews
Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable NASA standards (mechanisms approaches, structural margin, tolerance stackup, etc.)
Participate in peer review of designs to ensure consistent quality and practices across the team
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
7+ Years of professional experience in the aerospace industry
Expert in CAD software (Solidworks )
Proficient in creating part drawings
Proficient in GD&T and DFMA
Prior experience maintaining CAD files/drawings in a configuration management environment
Self-motivated, focused, and driven to meet critical deadlines
Excellent organization and time management skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Qualifications:
Relevant experience in a spaceflight design environment (preferably Class-A programs)
Relevant experience with NASA and Government customers, deliverables, reviews, and standards
