Overview
Position reports to the Executive Director of Medical Neuropsychiatry Medical Communications within Global Medical Affairs and leads a team across markets responsible for developing market level communication plans and execution of high quality medical communications to ensure pull-through of the Scientific Narrative. This role is responsible for the strategy and execution of BMS Medical Neuropsychiatry Communications portfolio. The Director of Medical Neuropsychiatry Medical Communications will ensure the disclosure of the science of BMS products and research data to inform Healthcare Providers and Patients worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Communications Strategy: Manage across a global matrix organization to drive quality planning and timely communication of key scientific information for BMS assets within the specified therapeutic area.
As a core member of the respective AIMS team, establish a clear, viable and compelling execution plan aligned with the TA-specific Medical Communications strategy, aligned with overall Neuropsychiatry strategy and objectives, and ensure delivery of timely and high-quality medical publications, scientific content, medical education and congress presentations worldwide.
Own the pull-through and execution of the Scientific Narrative aligned with portfolio strategy, development & execution of functionally integrated publication plan, content plan, and application to the Scientific Communication Platform (SCP).
Lead development of personalized medical communications and ensure timely journal submissions, publications, Congress presentations, and delivery of internal and external scientific content.
Demonstrate strong business acumen, interface with matrix partners to make trade-off decisions by managing Medical Communications Asset/Indication-level budget and allocation of funds and resources to highest business priorities.
Data Dissemination: Serve as a subject matter expert to internal audiences related to Asset/Indication-level communication landscape, HCP preferences, publication and scientific content planning, data disclosure / dissemination, and represent BMS scientific communications to external investigators, key authors, and journal editors.
Lead internal process improvements to ensure ethical and credible leadership in publications and scientific content; align standards with Good Publication Practices and industry standards, ensuring all employees engaged in publication activities follow these guidelines with integrity, quality, and transparency.
Provide oversight to the team for the development and execution of functionally integrated medical communications plans focusing on major markets and key assets; adjust plans according to clinical trial results/milestones and market changes.
Demonstrate scientific/research expertise to support collaborations with internal and external disease-area experts for quality data analysis, interpretation, communication planning, and data disclosure/dissemination.
Partner to identify timing and execute data dependencies and disclosures across channels, encouraging innovation to keep BMS medical communications at the forefront and maximize product value.
Identify and drive opportunities to enhance processes, tools, operating procedures, and outsourcing strategy to ensure consistent delivery and alignment across therapeutic areas worldwide.
Stakeholder Engagement: Provide expert scientific guidance to cross-functional colleagues to positively impact the business globally; foster relationships with academic and clinical experts, publishers, medical associations, and other stakeholders; collaborate with internal teams to leverage external insights for planning; partner with external vendors as needed.
Establish clear metrics aligned to customer needs and outcomes; regularly communicate metrics to key stakeholders.
People Leadership (If applicable): Lead and manage a team of full-time and contract staff to drive strategic medical communications planning; provide vision, direction, mentorship, and development of high-potential employees; create a high-performing, externally focused team; promote diversity and inclusion in decision making and talent development.
Qualifications & Experience Basic Qualifications
Advance scientific degree, PharmD, PhD or MD preferred
8-10 years of pharmaceutical/healthcare industry experience with a focus on medical communications; experience in TA preferred
Experience leading a large team or multiple teams with a track record of high performance
Ability to lead strategically, drive performance, build alignment, negotiate, and collaborate
Ability to work in an ambiguous environment and develop teams with quick deliverables
Experience leading cross-functional, cross-cultural project teams across matrix, multiple markets, and global geographies
Proven success delivering business results in a large, complex corporate environment with multiple priorities and tight timelines
Strong leadership, organizational, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills to manage timelines and ensure quality
Ability to influence stakeholders and establish strong working relationships
Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Preferred Qualifications
Pharmaceutical/Healthcare Industry experience
Experience with compliance, transparency, and COI regulations in medical communications
Knowledge of Good Publication Practices (GPP, ICMJE), Sunshine Act, Pharma Code of Conduct, and related post-marketing practices guidance
Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) and ISMPP active member preferred
Understanding of clinical trial design/execution, statistics, and data reporting requirements
Working knowledge of Microsoft suite and publication management tools (e.g., DataVision)
