Global Sourcing and Procurement The Global Sourcing and Procurement (GSP) organization drives value to BioMarin by leading transformation, implementing category strategies, and managing BioMarin’s growing third‑party spend of $1B+. Through collaboration with external suppliers and internal partners, GSP helps bring innovative new medicines to patients. The Professional Services / Consulting Senior Category Manager is an individual contributor role supporting the enterprise across all functions. This role reports to the Global Enterprise Services Sourcing Leader, part of the GSP Leadership Team and the Vice President of Global Sourcing and Procurement. Role scope and responsibilities
Associate Director, Commercial Category Manager, will shape and execute industry‑leading procurement strategies aligned with BioMarin’s priorities. Develop deep relationships with senior stakeholders and establish transparent, competitive supply channels. Drive innovation and continuous improvement in how BioMarin partners with the marketplace. Design and deliver category strategies across the Commercial Services portfolio, including but not limited to: Creative Agencies for Branded and Unbranded campaigns Digital Advertising including Omnichannel Marketing Market Research and Data Insights Market Access Patient Support Services This position requires close collaboration with BioMarin’s Commercial Organization globally to align on long‑range plans, annual business imperatives, and strategic objectives. The Associate Director will ensure category strategies deliver optimized cost and quality outcomes and enable BioMarin to achieve a high‑quality, reliable, and innovative supply base. Strategy & Leadership: Lead the design and execution of category strategies that support enterprise goals, create competitive advantage, and enable efficiency. Stakeholder Management: Build credibility with senior leaders, demonstrate strong influence, and act as a trusted advisor on external trends and supplier capabilities. Leadership: Provide thought leadership in procurement and model excellence in category management. Finance Collaboration: Partner with Finance to support functional stakeholders. External Perspective: Maintain forward‑looking view of industry trends and leverage external networks for new capabilities and insights. Ways of Working: Be the subject matter expert on evolving procurement practices and standards. Communication: Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Operational Focus: Define multi‑year roadmaps for Commercial categories aligned with long‑term goals and risk management. Supplier Relationship Management: Establish and oversee senior‑level relationships with critical suppliers and optimize performance. Negotiations: Lead high‑impact negotiations to support objectives and enterprise value. Results and Accountability: Deliver measurable results; establish KPI framework to monitor performance and drive accountability. Compliance: Ensure compliance with policies and procedures; support Quality and internal audit as needed. Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management, or related field. MBA or related graduate qualifications are an advantage. Specialization: Sourcing & Procurement, Commercial services/consulting. Extensive experience in procurement in a global context, preferably in the pharmaceutical sector. 7+ years in Procurement/Sourcing. Knowledge of procurement tools (sourcing, quotation analysis, contract negotiation, supplier review, supplier development); Ariba and SAP experience preferred. Proven expertise in managing in‑scope categories, including strategy development, stakeholder management, and supplier relationship management. Understanding of external environment and supplier models; strong financial and legal awareness related to contracting. Experience in matrix/global/regional environments; strong networking and cross‑functional collaboration skills. Strong analytical, written and verbal communication, and influencing skills. Ability to work in a high‑pressure environment with tight deadlines. Travel: Periodic travel to various BioMarin sites and supplier locations as required. Workstyle and travel
Workstyle: Virtual unless located within 100 miles of San Rafael, CA (zip 94901); otherwise hybrid onsite 2 days per week. Compensation and benefits
Salary range: $144,000 to $198,000. Compensation varies based on experience, qualifications, and location. Eligible for discretionary annual bonus, stock-based long‑term incentives, PTO, and benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
