The Assistant Director of Marketing and Fan Experience plays a key role in enhancing the visibility, energy, and impact of USD Athletics through creative marketing strategies, campus engagement, and dynamic game-day presentation. Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs, this position helps lead efforts to grow attendance, generate excitement, and build brand affinity across USD\'s ticketed sports programs and beyond. The Assistant Director also supervises a team of student workers and interns and partners with various campus and community groups to elevate the fan experience and supports the coordination of the USD spirit squads. Duties and Responsibilities: Game Presentation & Fan Experience
Lead the planning and execution of game presentation elements for ticketed sports, including script development, in-venue entertainment, video board content, public address coordination, music selection, and halftime activations. Coordinate logistics with spirit teams, pep band, mascot, anthem performers, and special guests. Ensure all sponsorship and promotional activations are fulfilled in-venue in coordination with multimedia rights partner. Contribute to the creation of graphic and video content for in-game use, in collaboration with creative services. Marketing Campaigns & Student Engagement
Assist in the development and execution of multi-channel marketing plans to increase visibility and attendance. Implement promotional strategies tailored to students, faculty, staff, and the San Diego community. Activate campus partnerships and student organizations to drive student attendance. Serve as the primary contact for the official athletics student fan group and develop and manage a year-round calendar of student-facing initiatives for marketing purposes. Staff Supervision & Development
Recruit, train, and manage a team of student workers and marketing interns. Oversee assignment of gameday responsibilities and evaluate performance to foster leadership development. Serve as the primary point of contact for student gameday support including music operators and on-field promotions crew. Spirit Squad & Mascot Coordination
Coordinate with spirit squad (cheer, dance), mascot, and pep band leadership to align schedules and maximize their impact on game days. Manage appearance requests and special events involving the mascot and spirit groups. Special Projects & External Engagement
Support planning and execution of special events, including theme nights, community initiatives, and student engagement activations. Assist with grassroots outreach efforts in conjunction with ticketing and sponsorship staff. Collaborate with development and alumni relations to enhance fan experience during special projects. Special Conditions of Employment: Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed in support of athletic events. Required to travel to select off-campus events. Background check:
Successful completion of a pre-employment background check. Degree Verification Requirement : Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience in marketing, promotions, fan engagement, or a related field. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Experience working in college athletics, live event operations, or related environments. Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of experience in sports marketing or event presentation preferred. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere) and/or other creative tools. Familiarity with game production software such as Sound Director. Supervisory experience with student staff or interns.
