Spacecraft Systems Engineer

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Spacecraft Systems Engineer to support programs based in Gilbert, Arizona.

Spacecraft Systems Engineers are key members of a cross-disciplinary team helping drive the design, development, integration & test, launch, and on-orbit operations of complex space systems and capabilities. Job Responsibilities:

• Support program technical execution in accordance with Northrop Grumman Systems Engineering processes and best practices
• Perform technical planning and analyses at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal
• Assist requirements development, allocation, and interface definition efforts
• As the system design matures & evolves, utilize different tools and databases to keep technical artifacts up to date and help ensure the technical baseline is maintained
• Play a key role in major program milestone and readiness reviews
• Author and provide input to program data products and other vital deliverables including Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Command & Telemetry Databases (CTDD), test plans, test procedures, and automated test scripts
• Help support critical test campaigns designed to exercise spacecraft functionality, measure performance, and verify survivability in the extreme launch and space environments
• Work directly with and communicate technical and programmatic status to program leadership and Customers
• Lead by example and be willing to mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise teammates

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with at least 5 years of experience; 3 Years with Masters; 1 Year with PhD
• Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and a desire to learn
• Engineering experience
• Must have U.S. Citizenship with active DoD Top Secret clearance at time of application

Preferred Qualifications:

• Electrical engineering and Integration & test experience
• Advanced degree in engineering, physics, or computer science
• Active DoD Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI
• Possess strong leadership qualities, as well as strong communication skills
• Experience working on spacecraft or aircraft systems
• Experience with scripting languages such as STOL, PERL, and PYTHON
• Experience in systems engineering to include architectural studies, technical baseline definition, requirements & interface management, hardware/software integration, and test planning & execution
• Experience with various technical tools such as MATLAB, STK, CORE, DOORS, or CAMEO
• Experience in any of the following areas is also desired: orbital mechanics, orbital debris modeling, spacecraft attitude control, power systems and modeling, avionics or digital electronics design, risk analysis, optics, communications, rocket propulsion, thermal engineering, or spacecraft integration and testing
• Knowledge of Launch Vehicles, System Safety, System Reliability, Contamination Control, EMI, Space Environments (Radiation, Surface Charging, etc.), and Human Factors is also desired
• Experience and/or training in Earned Value Management Systems
