About The Role

West Elm is seeking a Director, Social & Content to concept and lead best-in-class visual storytelling across social and digital channels. This role blends art direction, content development, and social-first thinking—delivering original, high-impact work that drives engagement, brand love, and performance. We’re looking for someone who’s visually driven, culturally in tune, and thrives on developing standout ideas—from nimble content to full-scale campaigns. This role is ideal for someone who understands how to move fast while maintaining a high creative bar and brand integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Art Direction & Content Development: Lead the creative vision for social and digital content, ensuring everything we publish is beautifully crafted, platform-aware, and on brand.
  • Social Strategy & Platform Thinking: Partner with brand and social teams to shape content strategies that respond to platform trends, cultural moments, and performance insights.
  • Concepting & Campaign Work: Create and package ideas for brand moments, product storytelling, and influencer campaigns. Scale concepts from quick-turn social executions to larger storytelling initiatives.
  • Influencer & Creator Briefs: Write inspiring creative briefs and collaborate with influencers and creators to produce authentic, engaging content that feels native to each platform.
  • Creative Production & Talent Direction: Lead production across a variety of content types—managing freelance photographers, stylists, art directors, writers, and editors. Scout and hire talent with a sharp eye for visual storytelling.
  • Content Packaging & Execution: Bring ideas to life through well-designed, thoughtfully executed visuals. Ensure work is elevated, editorial, and creatively ambitious—while staying aligned with brand standards.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience in creative production, art direction, and social storytelling—preferably in lifestyle, fashion, or design-driven brands
  • A strong portfolio showcasing content-led brand campaigns, original social work, and influencer-driven storytelling
  • Proven experience leading creative for social-first brands or campaigns
  • Exceptional taste and eye for design, photography, styling, and content curation
  • Deep understanding of how to tailor content by platform (Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, site, etc.)
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams
  • Passion for storytelling, innovation, and bringing new creative ideas to the table
  • Strong verbal and visual communication skills; ability to clearly present ideas and creative rationale
  • This role requires being onsite in the Dumbo Brooklyn office

WSI will not now or in the future commence an immigration case or sponsor an individual for this position. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

The expected starting pay range for this position is $148,000 - $203,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
