Artists in this role will work closely with a team of directors, art directors, producers, and visual development artists to explore and design all aspects of feature animated film projects, including sets, locations, props, characters, visual effects, color, and overall style.

Sony Pictures Animation, based in Los Angeles, California, is a pre-production animation studio creating feature animation and series with global artists. We empower filmmakers to lead the creative process, emphasizing the artist's hand to produce bold visual storytelling.

Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with Directors to translate the film vision from concept to presentation using drawings, paintings, sketches, renderings, sculptures, and digital imagery.
2. Create character and environment concepts, color scripts, lighting studies, mood paintings, and production illustrations.
3. Assist Art Director and Production Designer in bringing the script to life.
4. Implement feedback promptly and professionally.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in drawing (human and animal anatomy), design, perspective, composition, painting, lighting, and color theory for film design.
• Comfortable working in various styles from cartoony to realistic.
• Expertise in set/location/props design, character/costume design, effects, or color styling.
• Understanding of 2D-3D translation and familiarity with design tools like Photoshop and Cintiq.
• Creative problem-solving skills.
• Efficient time management and ability to work under pressure.
• Self-motivated, good communicator, team player, positive outlook.

The anticipated salary ranges from $51.61 to $81.75 per hour, with benefits per the collective bargaining agreement. Actual salary depends on various factors.
