Overview

The California Post is seeking a Senior Director of Audience Development to lead strategies that grow and engage audiences across all platforms, with a focus on driving brand loyalty. This key leadership role sits at the intersection of editorial, analytics, product, marketing, and sales, ensuring our journalism reaches the right audiences while deepening engagement with loyal readers. The Senior Director will be responsible for shaping and executing audience growth strategies, managing a dedicated team, and partnering closely with leadership to achieve ambitious growth and engagement goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee audience and distribution growth strategies across SEO, social media, newsletters, and other direct audience channels.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the audience development team, setting clear goals and providing leadership across multiple disciplines.
  • Collaborate with editorial leadership to optimize content for discoverability and engagement across platforms.
  • Package and distribute content in line with platform-specific best practices.
  • Work with product teams to improve onsite and app user experience and optimize audience journeys.
  • Establish and track KPIs for audience acquisition, engagement, and retention.
  • Use analytics tools to generate actionable insights and inform strategies across editorial, product, and marketing teams.
  • Champion audience-first thinking across the newsroom, ensuring audience insights inform content and growth decisions.
  • Partner with sales leadership to align audience initiatives with revenue goals.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in audience development, growth marketing, or related roles in publishing or media, with demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Proven track record of growing and engaging audiences across multiple platforms.
  • Deep understanding of SEO, email marketing, social media strategy, and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Parse.ly, SEMrush).
  • Familiarity with emerging platforms and technologies, with the ability to adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated success in using data and insights to drive decision-making and audience strategy.
  • Strong understanding of California’s audience landscape and media consumption habits.

Salary

Base pay range: $150,000.00/yr - $175,000.00/yr

Salary range note: The New York Post recognizes that compensation reflects our good faith estimate to pay fairly as to what ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor offers within the range based on the candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other relevant factors.
