Overview
The Audio Patent Engineer will build and maintain their patent portfolio working closely with R&D and the rest of the Multimedia Patenting team. They should be able to utilise their technical skills to support other Patenting teams involved in licensing and/or litigation projects. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge of audio codecs (e.g. EVS, AMR, AAC, MPEG-H, MPEG-I, IVAS) and preferably some knowledge of Patenting. You will be working in a team with patent professionals located globally.
Responsibilities
- Evaluating ideas, reviewing invention disclosures, and collaborating with inventors.
- Filing and prosecuting patent applications.
- Securing granted patent applications with claims aligned with the relevant audio coding specifications.
- Overseeing and managing a personal patent portfolio.
- Performing prior-art search and validity analysis on patents in speech/audio coding technology areas.
- Collaborating with other Nokia Technology teams involved in licensing and litigation.
Qualifications
You should have:
- Expertise in audio codecs (e.g. EVS, AMR, AAC, MPEG-H, MPEG-I, IVAS).
- Experience in cellular communications and 3GPP standard.
- Broad knowledge of audio research and audio technology applications in virtual reality, augmented reality, immersive audio.
- Excellent communication, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Nice to have
- PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar area.
- Patenting experience, e.g. claim charting.
- Attendance and contribution to MPEG and/or 3GPP standardization meetings.
