Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Creative Services supports Rice University Athletics in marketing, communications, and creative content. This role involves developing, overseeing, and maintaining all graphic design projects for Rice Athletics and the Owl Club, resulting in an integrated strategy to advance the Rice Athletics brand. The position collaborates closely with other departments to manage the production and integration of graphic assets across digital platforms and key athletic venues.

Workplace Requirements

This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One or more (1+) years of relevant experience
  • In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education above and beyond what is required may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.

Preferred

  • Experience within a college athletics department

Skills

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, etc.), Canva, Slack, project management, and DAM software
  • Knowledge of design management, photography, illustration, color theory, and printing procedures
  • Ability to provide creative direction, manage multiple projects, and work alongside team members

Essential Functions

  • Create materials to enhance Rice Athletics and the Owl Club’s profile, including posters, logos, and various marketing print and digital collateral
  • Design and prepare distinctive graphics for logos, presentations, multimedia projects, video and ribbon boards, billboards, and other projects, ensuring brand consistency
  • Produce graphic elements for platforms, including print, web, mobile, social media, video, email campaigns, and large-format spaces
  • Maintain and uphold Rice's brand and logo standards through effective communication and provision of supporting graphics
  • Work with marketing, communications, and creative teams to ensure alignment with brand strategy and project goals
  • Assist in generating and publishing content for social and digital media
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with various teams to meet department and recruiting goals
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently in a fast-paced environment, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Stay updated on industry trends, respond to feedback, and bring innovative ideas to the team
  • Monitor graphic design work across departments to ensure adherence to design principles
  • Oversee, manage and mentor student interns to support the athletics department's brand
  • Assist with content generation with photo and video coverage of athletic events designated
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned
