Engineer/Principal CAD CAM/ CAD Librarian – Roy, Utah (alternate locations: Huntsville, AL, or Colorado Springs, CO). Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance type: Secret. Travel: 10% of the time. This position may be filled at level 2 or level 3.

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire a Engineer/Principal Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD) Modeler and Librarian to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The role supports the design of weapon systems and equipment within an overarching Systems Engineering and full lifecycle management framework.

What You’ll Get To Do

Candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining libraries of component parts within common engineering design CAD tools, with a primary focus on mechanical parts within Siemens NX and Teamcenter. The role involves collaboration with mechanical, electrical, components, manufacturing, procurement and other engineering disciplines to support system design and lifecycle processes. Responsibilities include developing part models for mechanical CAD parts in NX and Teamcenter, maintaining libraries, conducting multidisciplinary research, and creating representations of components for CAD tools in the library. The candidate should be detail-oriented and capable of using part datasheets, specifications, and drawings for engineering applications. The role may include creating and reviewing library components, symbols, and cells in accordance with Northrop Grumman and industry guidelines, ensuring high levels of accuracy. The candidate will work with a team of modelers and librarians to develop MCAD/ECAD processes and documentation.

Responsibilities (example)

  • General understanding and wide application of technical principles related to mechanical parts management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Systems Engineering, multi-generational program development, and supplier management. Work independently or as part of a team to provide innovative technical solutions.
  • Understanding and adherence to documented processes.
  • Attention to detail; ability to interpret datasheets/specifications/drawings; sound decision-making. Self-motivated and able to work under general direction in teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to obtain and sustain a Secret Security Clearance.

*This position can be filled at level 2 or level 3.*

Basic Qualifications

  • T04: Bachelor's degree in science with 2 years of experience or 0 years with a Master's, or 4 additional years in lieu of a degree.
  • T03: Bachelor's degree in science with 5 years of experience or 3 years with a Master's, or 1 year with a PhD or 4 additional years in lieu of a degree.
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance or higher.
  • Active in-scope DoD Secret Security Clearance granted/renewed within the past 6 years.
  • Ability to be screened for Enhanced Security Clearances within a reasonable time as determined by the company.
  • A minimum of 4 years experience modeling in NX or equivalent CAD tools.
  • Experience with equipment design and/or MCAD/ECAD library maintenance and development; experience with military or industry component part specifications or standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related STEM field.
  • 4 years’ experience modeling component parts in NX.
  • Strong understanding of hardware development, design assemblies, mechanical equipment design, and electromechanical equipment design.
  • Background in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with Siemens Capital, Teamcenter, or Xpedition.
  • Special Program Access.
  • Working knowledge of military and industry standards for mechanical/electromechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Familiar with technical drawings and engineering data for mechanical/electromechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Experience with lifecycle management and supply chain aspects related to parts management and obtaining technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

Work schedule: 9/80 (nine-hour days Monday–Thursday with every other Friday off).

Salary ranges: Primary Level $70,200.00 – $105,400.00; Secondary Level $86,600.00 – $130,000.00. Offers consider scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may apply where eligible.
