Overview

Department: Library Services Department. Organizational Unit: Library Services Port St John Library.

Position Type: Permanent. Part Time.

CLOSE DATE: 09/16/2025

Salary: $17.73 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Work location: North Area/Port St. John Public Library. Schedule: Part-time up to 25 hours per week. Work schedule is variable and includes evenings and weekends.

Job summary: Performs experienced paraprofessional library work providing assistance in the Youth Services section of the library. Work includes assisting the public with the use of computers to conduct database and Internet searches, printers, library-related services on mobile phones and eReaders, and assisting with various library programs. May provide direction to other staff members and/or volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide paraprofessional library services in the Youth Services section.
  • Assist the public with computer use for database and Internet searches.
  • Assist with printers and library-related services on mobile devices and eReaders.
  • Support various library programs and activities.
  • May supervise or direct other staff members and/or volunteers as needed.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of two (2) years of college coursework in any field (30 semester hours / 45 quarter hours = one year); OR
  • Two (2) years of library or customer service experience. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Special requirements:

  • When usage statistics change, library employees may be assigned to another library.
  • In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
