Overview
The City of Norfolk Department of Parks & Recreation is seeking a Recreational Specialist to develop and implement music programs, lead classes, and promote overall wellness. This position will provide facility oversight, ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for participants, and foster positive community engagement for healthy lifestyles.

Department Starting Hiring Salary: $42,629
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating performing arts programs and daily activities for youth, teens, adults, and seniors.
- Develop, organize, and teach musical classes in at least two different mediums.
- Assist with developing and implementing a fee-based class structure to contribute to the cultural growth of individuals through musical programming.
- Assist with the management of daily facility operations by scheduling and monitoring volunteers and employees, compiling figures and preparing reports, providing lesson plans, program planning, and collecting fees.
- Market programs by creating flyers/announcements to the community, submitting press releases, and serving on committees for planning and marketing events.
- Interact with and develop positive relationships with the public by responding to inquiries, contributing to the growth and development of students and volunteers.
- Perform related duties by carrying out administrative responsibilities, transporting patrons, submitting and writing initiatives, and providing input on budgetary spending and revenue generation.
Qualifications
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months to one year of advanced study or training past high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

- Experience in teaching music and music classes
- Valid Driver’s License
- First Aid
- CPR Certification

Monday to Sunday; 6:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.; not to exceed 40 hours per week; flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and special events
