About WBRC:

At WBRC 6 News, we are a market leader in Central Alabama, producing award-winning news with a strong digital reach through WBRC.com, our news and weather apps, and major social platforms.

Job Summary/Description

WBRC 6 News is seeking a news producer who treats rundowns as a blank canvas, bringing bold editorial instincts, strong news judgment, and creativity to fast-moving, high-impact newscasts. You will have access to multiple live capabilities and join a team that values urgency, clarity, and storytelling that goes beyond the obvious. If you can turn facts into compelling moments and are willing to try new approaches, we want to see what you can do.

We are looking for a smart, creative, and driven producer to lead our weekend morning newscasts. During the week, you will fill in on other shows as needed, including holidays. This role requires initiative, critical thinking, and the ability to make bold editorial calls. If you love building a show from the ground up and elevating every broadcast, this is the place for you.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Use editorial judgment to decide what makes the show—and what doesn\'t.
  • Collaborate with reporters and managers to build fast-paced, impactful, and original newscasts.
  • Monitor social media to spot trends, find fresh angles, and highlight stories people are talking about.
  • Get creative with visuals—graphics, viewer photos, webcam interviews, and other elements that bring a story to life.
  • Write for all platforms (web, social) and post with visuals and video that grab attention.
  • Interview subjects and dig into stories to ensure accuracy, fairness, and watchability.
  • Contribute to live breaking news and special coverage, which may be unscripted and high-stakes.
  • Collaborate with reporters and producers on promos, teasers, and content development.
  • Follow up on tips, chase leads, and help identify the next big story.
  • Make smart, fast decisions under pressure, especially when deadlines tighten.
  • Write clean, clear copy across platforms, even under time constraints.
  • Follow journalistic and legal guidelines.
  • Edit video for broadcast and digital use.
  • Demonstrate curiosity, collaboration, confidence, and ownership to elevate every show.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of newsroom experience.
  • Self-starter with a passion for news.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overnights when needed.
  • This position is not for a beginner.
