Overview

Senior UX/UI Engineer role at Apex Systems. Seeking a Senior UX/UI Engineer to enhance and modernize the user experience across agency portals, internal legal workflows, and CJIS applications. This role supports both current frontend implementations using Angular 13+ and HTML5/CSS3, and long-term design system modernization that prioritizes accessibility, security, and user efficiency. The ideal candidate will work closely with developers, analysts, and end-users to design interfaces that integrate seamlessly with the Java/Spring Boot back-end and WebSphere-based legacy systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and iterate on responsive, accessible user interfaces that work across Angular 13+, Spring MVC views, and other Java-based web applications.
  • Conduct UX research and collaborate with analysts to translate requirements into interactive prototypes.
  • Ensure UI consistency across legacy and modern systems, gradually implementing component libraries and design standards.
  • Incorporate ADA/WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines and secure design patterns into all front-end work.
  • Provide visual and structural guidance to developers implementing Angular or JavaScript-based front-ends.
  • Create and maintain UX documentation, wireframes, mockups, and style guides.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years designing interfaces for enterprise-grade applications, including Java/Spring-based platforms.
  • Proficiency with Angular 13+, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and responsive UI design.
  • Strong grasp of usability principles, form validation UX, and data-heavy workflows.
  • Experience designing for accessibility, including compliance with Section 508/WCAG standards.
  • Familiarity with secure design patterns and role-based UI controls.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with backend teams using Spring Boot, REST APIs, WebSphere, and Oracle.
  • Familiarity with design systems (e.g., Material, Carbon, or internal design tokens).
  • Exposure to secure workflow and records management interfaces (e.g., FOIA, CJIS portals).
  • Experience with Figma, Adobe XD, or similar prototyping tools.

Soft Skills

  • Empathetic design mindset with strong stakeholder communication.
  • Collaborative team player with ability to bridge design and development.
  • Ability to balance modern UX practices with regulatory compliance and operational constraints.
