Entry Writer – (Chicago, IL)

Location: Itasca, IL
Employment Type: Full-time, On-site
Salary: Up to $60,000/year
Hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)

Position Summary

Seeking a detail-oriented Entry Writer to join a customs brokerage team in the Chicago area. This role supports the import clearance process by preparing and submitting entry documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining communication with government agencies and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and file U.S. Customs entries for air and ocean shipments
• File ISF and ensure timely follow-up for BOL match
• Review shipping documentation (BOLs, commercial invoices, etc.) for accuracy and completeness
• Classify goods using the HTS and applicable SOPs
• Communicate with CBP and Partner Government Agencies (FDA, USDA, EPA, etc.)
• Notify internal/external parties regarding holds, exams, or other issues
• Assist in creating and updating client SOPs
• Act as backup within the brokerage team as needed
• Foster collaboration and maintain a positive team environment

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of customs brokerage experience (5–6 years preferred)
• Experience with freight forwarders, especially Japanese-affiliated, is a plus
• Strong knowledge of HTS, 19 CFR, and PGA compliance
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools
• Cargowise experience is a plus
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Must be capable of performing customs entry work
• Humble and team-oriented personality preferred
• Japanese language is not required
