As a Customs Specialist at Kuehne+Nagel, your job is to optimise logistics to keep our global supply chains running smoothly. Your expertise helps make both special and ordinary moments possible for people around the world, such as ensuring a global product launch happens on time with ethically sourced products stocked at local stores. This is import and export work, but it is so much more than we imagine.
Responsibilities
- Audit all Customs entries and process entries by pre-keying, filing, and analyzing documents.
- Accurately process entries with US Customs and Border Protection and related duties.
- Classify merchandise using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) to determine duty rates.
- Review and input shipment data into customs brokerage systems (e.g., Cargowise) to generate complete, compliant entries.
- Prepare invoices, packing slips, and certificates of origin for customs clearance.
- Monitor entry status and follow up with CBP on discrepancies or delays.
- Proactively communicate with clients regarding shipment status, required documentation, and potential issues.
- Address client inquiries promptly and clearly explain customs regulations and procedures.
- Build strong client relationships by delivering high-quality service and exceeding expectations.
- Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate import logistics and stay updated on evolving regulations and best practices.
- Identify and escalate potential compliance risks and conduct thorough document audits for accuracy and adherence to laws.
- Participate in internal compliance training and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Generate reports on KPIs related to customs clearance efficiency and compliance; manage entry processing times to meet client deadlines.
What we would like you to bring
- 2+ years' experience in Customs Clearance and Customer service
- Working knowledge of Cargo Wise
- Knowledge of domestic and international geography including countries, major cities and ocean ports; basic knowledge of U.S. regulatory laws
- Basic knowledge of INCO terms, HTS, customs regulations and other government agency requirements
