Overview

Writing Center Assistant role at Argonne National Laboratory within the Writing Center of Excellence, Communication and Public Affairs Division. You will support Writing Center communication and support functions, including document creation, revision, formatting, and media management, along with administrative duties to ensure smooth operations.

Responsibilities

  • Create, revise, and format documents, forms, and policies.
  • Edit and upload media, events, and policy files to the web.
  • Proofread documents for accuracy and compliance with accessibility standards (508) and style guides; assist with formatting and troubleshooting document issues.
  • Provide administrative support: project tracking and reporting, onboarding new staff and contractors, and handling customer requests for Writing Center support.
  • Help ensure accurate records on customer projects and time reporting by staff and contractors.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with team members and customers.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree with 8+ years of experience in graphic communications/design, journalism, or related communications field.
  • Expertise in software such as Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Excel.
  • Experience in tracking and reporting project metrics.
  • Experience in posting content to the web; knowledge of AI tools is a plus.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lightly edit and proofread documents; experience in writing/editing aligned with style guides (e.g., University of Chicago Style Guide and Associated Press Stylebook).
  • Strong customer-service focus; steward of lab resources; passion for the lab’s mission.

  • Willingness to work in a collaborative environment and adapt to evolving requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected hiring range for this position is $30.17 - $45.13 per hour. Pay is a general guideline and may be adjusted based on scope, responsibilities, qualifications, internal equity, and market factors. Comprehensive benefits are included as part of the total rewards package.
