Function / Position Summary

The library manager oversees the development, implementation, and administration of library services across all schools within the district. This position ensures that library programs support student learning, literacy development, and curriculum alignment while fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment. A key responsibility of this role is the oversight and management of the Destiny Library System, ensuring consistent access, usage, and data integrity across school sites. Additional responsibilities include budgeting, collection development, professional development for library personnel, and ensuring compliance with state and national library standards.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for district-wide library services to ensure alignment with district goals, policies, and educational initiatives.
  • Serve as the district-level administrator for the Destiny Library Manager system, overseeing its configuration, user access, circulation policies, and integration with student information systems.
  • Ensure accurate cataloging, patron records, and system-wide inventory management across all school libraries within Destiny Library and Resource Manager.
  • Support library staff in daily operations, professional development, and instructional collaboration.
  • Manage and allocate district library resources effectively to support diverse student learning needs.
  • Oversee material selection, acquisition, and evaluation while ensuring a balanced and relevant collection through thoughtful purchasing and deselection processes.
  • Collaborate with Literacy and Libraries, district departments, and programs to integrate library services across all content areas.
  • Support the development and use of instructional guides, research tools, and digital literacy programs to enhance student engagement and academic success.
  • Monitor library operating budgets, grants, and site expenditures to ensure financial responsibility and sustainability.
  • Prepare reports, proposals, and contracts to secure funding while complying with district policies and state/national library standards.
  • Compile and analyze circulation and usage statistics to assess library impact and effectiveness.
  • Implement data-driven improvements that enhance access, efficiency, and engagement in library programs.
  • Develop and coordinate reading incentive programs, author visits, and literacy initiatives to promote a culture of reading and research.
  • Organize community and parent engagement events that encourage lifelong learning and support student literacy development.
  • Serve as a liaison with local libraries and external literacy organizations to expand resources and learning opportunities for the district.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a library and science field, including Academic Librarianship, Children and Youth Services, Library management, and Library Media Specialist.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.
Experience / Knowledge
  • Experience overseeing library operations, circulation systems, and instructional support.
  • Proficiency in MARC records, cataloging standards, and material selection.
  • Expertise in print, digital, and electronic resources, library systems, and emerging technologies.
  • Knowledge of innovative learning spaces that foster creativity and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with ISBE, I-SAIL, AASL, ISTE, and computer literacy standards.
  • Excellent communication and instructional skills.
  • Strong knowledge of diverse reading resources and literacy development strategies.
  • Experience managing library budgets, purchasing, and resource allocation.
  • Expertise in selection, weeding, and maintaining diverse, high-quality collections.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in a very fast paced and stressful environment.
  • Ability to work on a computer over a major portion of the workday.
  • Ability to lift server and network equipment for rack mounting up to 50 pounds.
Terms of Employment
  • This is a 12-month work year position.
  • Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. The salary range for this position is $54,752.00 - $82,139.00. It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($68,457.00).
