Media Relations Director with Health Research Expertise

Overview Spire Communications is hiring two full-time, senior communications professionals with demonstrated expertise in media relations and writing for public relations/public affairs (PR/PA) to join our team supporting the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). This position supports a federal agency working to revolutionize biomedical research and health innovation for the country.

Spire Communications is a woman-owned strategic communications and creative firm based in Alexandria, VA that supports science, technology, and engineering organizations within the government and private sectors. This is a hybrid position, working partially at the client site in Washington D.C., and partially remote. All candidates must be based in the Washington D.C. area. What You’ll Do
Lead proactive and reactive media relations Work closely with local, national, and global news media Write, edit, disseminate, and promote press releases, media interview responses, talking points, bylines, and other public affairs documents that include scientific and technical information Write content for social media and web Create messaging and positioning strategies Create communications plans for new ARPA-H programs and events What You’ll Bring to Spire
10+ years of communications experience Background in biomedical technology, health sciences, or healthcare communications Ability to manage large accounts independently with minimal supervision Senior-level expertise in media relations, crisis communications, and positioning Foundational knowledge of social media strategies and tactics for LinkedIn and Twitter What We Offer
