Court Reporting

The purpose of this classification is to prepare and provide verbatim record of court proceedings.

Essential functions include attending court and/or other legal proceedings and taking verbatim recordings, utilizing stenography and voice to text equipment; setting up, connecting, and verifying proper operation of equipment prior to proceedings; reiterating testimony and court records from notes upon request; and ensuring confidentiality of all evidence and testimony. Prepare certified written and electronic verbatim transcripts, proofreading, editing, printing, and binding transcripts; preparing trial index; attaching photocopies of all trial exhibits; certifying accuracy and completeness of documents; preparing certified documents for filing with Clerk of Court; producing and distributing copies of documents as appropriate; and maintaining confidentiality of official records. Receive, inventory, record, and store trial exhibits entered as evidence in court, entering case exhibit information into court database, filing case exhibits with proper agency when necessary, maintaining exhibits during court hearings and trials, and filing/storing case exhibits in specified storage areas in compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Prepare, collate, and bind printed transcripts of court proceedings, preparing digital media copies of transcripts as requested, backing up and archiving electronic files and exhibits for storage in compliance with applicable laws, and responding to requests for transcripts within designated timeframes. Prepare invoices for transcription services of court proceedings, court orders, and other legal hearings, billing attorneys, other individuals, and agencies according to fee schedules, maintaining copies of billing, invoices, and payments. Maintain court reporting equipment and supplies used in daily work assignments, ensuring proper working order of equipment, making minor repairs, and sending equipment to outside vendors for major repairs as necessary.

Minimum qualifications include an associate degree in court reporting, or related field, supplemented by three years of experience in courtroom operations and procedures, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Court Reporting license.

Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
