Overview
At Meta’s Reality Labs Research, our goal is to make world-class consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We aim to develop technologies that enable AR/VR to be pervasive and universal, including optics and displays, computer vision, audio, graphics, brain-computer interfaces, haptic interaction, eye/hand/face/body tracking, perception science, and true telepresence. The Audio Team within RL Research is looking for a Research Engineer with a specialty in audio processing to join our growing team. This role will perform applied research and engineering in technologies that improve listeners’ hearing capabilities under challenging listening conditions, collaborating with a cross-functional team of engineers, research scientists, and designers to develop novel hearing enhancement technologies for AR/VR products.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement hearing enhancement algorithms for wearable audio devices
- Develop solutions that solve complex problems at the intersection between beamforming, machine learning, acoustics and signal processing for applications in AR/VR
- Develop algorithms that meet system-level acoustic, compute, and memory constraints for wearable audio devices
- Collaborate with teams in the larger Reality Labs audio team to deploy new technologies in AR/VR products
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
- 1+ years experience developing, implementing, and evaluating algorithm and signal processing techniques for audio processing
- 1+ years experience in programming in C++, MATLAB, or Python
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Applied Mathematics, Audio Engineering and Signal Processing, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience with cross-group and cross-team collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in hearing enhancement signal processing and auditory perception
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related fields
- 2+ years of experience in speech, hearing and audio perception research & technology development
- 3+ years experience developing, implementing and evaluating algorithm and signal processing techniques for speech enhancement solutions
- Experience with application of machine learning techniques to speech enhancement algorithms
- Experience and proven track record of developing and productizing speech enhancement solutions
Compensation & Industry
Public Compensation: $117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
